Info for Charities & other Not-For-Profit Organisations

Employees of Public Benevolent Institutions, Charities, Non-Profit Hospitals and other Not-For-Profit organisations may be eligible to benefit from FBT concessions.

According to the Australian Taxation Office website, organisations catagorised as Public Benevolent Institutions (PBI’s), Health Charities, Trade Unions, non-profit Hospitals and other Not-For-Profit organisations may be entitled to significant Fringe Benefits Tax concessions.

These may include exemptions for FBT on grossed-up Fringe Benefits of $17,000 or $30,000, or rebates on grossed-up Fringe Benefits of 48% up to $30,000. Please refer to www.ato.gov.au for more details, or consult with your employer, accountant or financial planner.

As a result of these concessions, employees of these organisations may package items normally not viable under FBT legislation. Depending on your employer type, income level and company policy you may be entitled to use pre-tax income to pay for:
  • Mortgage payments or rent
  • Credit card bills
  • Payment of personal loans
  • School fees
  • Child care costs
  • General living expenses such as bills, entertainment and shopping
  • Pre-tax funds cannot be taken as cash or cash substitutes.
To find out the FBT status of your employer, please contact boost salary on the number listed below.
